I’m almost ready to start playing live shows again after a rather enjoyable two months off!….
I need to quit the ciggies though as I sound more and more rough round the edges as the weeks/vodkas/late nights go by….

Keep checking for gig dates from August 2008….

Thanks!

The Shortest Fairy Tale In The World....

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?"

The girl said: "NO!" And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping, dancing, drank martinis, ate chocolate, always had a clean house, never had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't have to worry about her weight, travelled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the theatre, never
watched sports, never wore friggin' lacy lingerie that went up her ass, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.

The End

Sunstroke....

hhmmmmmm

.......too much sun, sand, men, booze, menthol ciggarettes, blue skies, rose farms, hillarity, songs, lullabye’s, strangers, colours, gigs, grass, giggles, talking, crying, flying, attention, psycho behaviour, laziness, loving, waiting, buses, aeroplane food, books, papers, pens, rubbish, craziness, spiritual healing, passing out, finding out....living the dream, doubt....

and simply not enough time.

returning home from my travels has been hard work - and my mind is still in top-spin - but i managed some great gigs last week, here in Edinburgh and in Glasgow, so thanks to everyone for coming along.

please keep checking my gig calendar for updates - as there will be some changes....Iso Bar Lounge is STILL TO BE CONFIRMED!

i’m recording and running around alot just now - but i hope to catch up with people at gigs along the way.....

New Photos of Australia to be uploaded soon.....

Australia So Far....

Down Under....

G-Day!

...i'm staying fairly outta town here in Oz so not much time spent on the net...as everything takes so long...but here's a bit from what i've been scribbling in my journal....its all from various dates!...i've tried to make some sense of my handwriting - just picked little bits out here and there...

"well last nights gig in Freo was just lovely! it was such a pleasure to open for Bianca Jade who is simply stunning, so talented and armed with beautiful sounds and songs. (...and thanks to Kim for taking some snaps of me ... always a bonus to have an actual photographer taking charge!...)

It was great to chat with folk afterwards, including family of friends back in the UK - and I was really touched that they had been listening to my songs and so requested Sweet November...(which i haven't played in a long long time...so needed some help with the lyrics!! ) I was laughing inwardly to myself as i began the set with my brand new sunny yellow flip flops on - but had to abort the mission as it was just too damn wierd!? so bare feet it was... a lovely venue, good sound ....and i couldn't get enough of the mango beers...

i woke early today after a night spent drinking...and have eaten a delicious breakfast on the famous Cappuccino Strip (sounded like an alternative "Brazillian" to me...but there you go...) its actually a sweet and delightful stip of coffee houses sat baking in the sunshine. i've spent the last 10 minutes laughing to myself about the two marriage proposals i've already recieved - one Irishman and one Frenchman - not bad for a ginger chick who 'can sing a bit'.....

Freo is simply stunning. Buzzing and brimming with a really inspiring energy. its equally laid back as it is vibrant and bustling.. walking around the old buildings is amazing with all the colours, smell of the sea, humidity and a lazy, lulling breeze.

i keep thinking about when i was growing up. its probably the heat, fruit, food, lushness of the land - all of it is strangely reminicent of the Far East - and has re-energized my desire to travel and the enjoyment i get out of meeting new faces and seeing new places... i'm not sure why i've shut it away for so long. who knows. maybe everything really is about timing.... but my freckles are bouncing back with a vengence and seem much perkier than they have been in a long, long while.

i've written so much in the last week - sometimes for songs and sometimes for sanity - i've even tried my hand at yodelling...attempting a country song or two...its the arid-red-earth...all the dust getting to me (in a good way..)

...heading back to Kalmunda tonight, back up to the hills and the PROPER OUTBACK BUGS! i've actually been far braver than i had realised.... Back back to Freo on Sunday to hopefully play a few songs in Mojos, and then catch my flight to Sydney around midnight....cant wait to play in Manly Bay on the 19th - i'm positively giddy about it all...."

Err...thats probably enough for now.... cant wait for sydney - am working on some new material out here and have borrowed an old 4 track so should have some really great musical memories by the time i get home in April....

i've posted some piccys!

byebye!

Thanks!

Just a note to say thanks to everyone who came along to support me on Friday night @Cabaret Voltaire. It means a great deal when I’m playing a solo set to see so many of my friends there, and I want you to know that your time and patience at these gigs is hugely appreciated.

Also a big shout out to Benji aka Marwood – who played a brilliant final set – it really is awesome to meet and share a bill with a total pro and very very genuine guy, who has oodles of talent and some blinding songs!

….(We would also like to thank him for his unplugged set down in Leith until the wee small hours!!… which included a phenomenal version of Video Killed The Radio Star)…

Hopefully Benji (Marwood) will be back in Scotland again soon enough to entertain us! And of course to help polish off another bottle or two of good malt whisky…

Please check out the Marwood myspace site for any future gig listings around your area.

My next gig – and final one before Australia - is looking to be on the 17th Feb @ The Acoustic Affair Sessions held in Glasgow.

Although I’m still waiting final confirmation of this, it would be excellent to see some folk come through for this night. It’s a great showcase event for Scottish songwriters – and long standing in its reputation and of its high standards of performing acts.

I’m also going to be working on some of my recordings this month – its taking a while to complete – but hopefully by March/April time I will finally have CDs ready to sell and available to plug.

So until then…

Byebye!

What is Age?

CHOKING!!

I cant believe someone has asked me my age??  Everyone who knows me well enough...knows how upsetting I find this particular issue!!.....

I'm too old. Bitter. Twisted. Doomed.

I am however looking forward to my upcoming gigs - and my road trip in a couple of weeks.

and I'm working really hard on some new material.

On-A-Roll

Lots of decent acoustic gigs coming up! (mainly in Glasgow..until the new year..) and I am really looking forward to playing to new audiences! its gonna be SMASHING!

It all kicks off tonight - in BOX - and I am a little anxious about it... as I am currently sounding like an OLD MAN!

...But then thats what you get for acting like a total GOON at mates wedding in the Highlands!  WHAT a blast...although - as always - I took it a little far....and drinking like a fish and throwing up everywhere...does-not-a-singer-make.....no indeed!!!  eek!

ah well! good times!

..and lets face it...I'm NEVER going to learn!

hopefully catch you soon!

Pulling My Finger Out...

yes its true.... lots of gigs (Well for me anyway...) coming up...and even more in the pipeline. So would be good to see some people come along and support...

I've been workin away on new songs and recording them with the lovely Graeme Steele...who is really supportive and encouraging. He is wonderful at helping me find the sound I hear in my head? - and the one that somehow meets the 'machinery' and then appears in the monitors!! Very Clever.

And since i've been ill...i've been obsessing over my poetry books, learning the blues scale on Taylor, watching movies..(loved Running With Scissors..) and listening to old Faves - Neil Young - and new wonders - Feist (how good??) and Catherine Feeney (BRILLIANT!!)..

hopefully catch up with some of you soon!

Well…day 3 of ‘the tour’… and we are already ‘broken’…it is going swimmingly of course! with everyone’s behavior sinking to its lowest depths but the music is flowing and The (incredible) Dead Beat Club blew us all away at their album launch on Wednesday !! A night to remember with a huge effort made by all, and tremendous support for the band. A stonking! Stonking! performance.

St Andrews was just brilliant. Of course we turned up and it looked to be a shambles (a tour is not a tour without some kind of drama) …We had the wrong cables for the PA ….so our night went ahead ‘unplugged’ and THAT IS HOW IS SHOULD BE!!! We quickly took over the bar, and began gatecrashing each others songs marvelously! We drank and drank and stomped and stomped, laughed our asses off…until we had a suitably rosey glow upon our faces.

Our vision became more blurry as did our harmonies and the highlight for me was Andy Tucker’s cover of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ … Shona and I let rip at this point as did Shug…and Tucker couldn’t help but get thoroughly over excited demanding ‘Play ya strange wee Bastard!!! PLAY’ …..a moment in time indeed!

Looking forward to the dates up North…a little scared…but looking forward all the same!

And NO Andy…there is never a good time to try and grope the boob?!

‘Old Gold’???…Robbie you are a dirty dirty man!

A strange old world this and a strange old feeling when you start to play solo acoustic shows again!... having been in hiding all summer I figured it was about time.  I allowed my self to completely unravel first..of course.. entered into the super state of paranoia and complete lack of self confidence/beleif - the usual garbage.  JUST PLAY YOUR FRIGGIN SONGS!!!! and so I have begun to do just that!

Thank God! missed it. love it. wont abandon it again (..unless forced to!!)

Thanks to everone who rolled out of their cosy homes in Leith - the Iso Bar acoustic sessions - was a cracker! a great atmosphere and appreciative crowd.  I remain in disbeleif that my dear friends can be so quiet and caring. Thank-you.  Great sets by Al Shields and Ned Goodwin. Lovely people - fabulous songs.

A terrifying set at Acoustic Edinburgh...but glad to have appeared there for the first time! even if I totally choked on my last song...was a little spooked mostly by faces unknown...and again..the fact I had no battle with them listening?? Its everything you ever want..until you have it!! Thank-you lovely crowd!

Tour time.  Liver...serve me well...we've come soooo far!  I hope to see some of you along the road!

Till then!

...trying to figure this whole thing out....

A huge thank you to the very talented Reuben Paris! who took time to help me create a portfolio for all upcoming work on CD/PR and website - it took real patience... and of course genius vision!... for I be NOT a model ....

Thanks muchly.
